The Great Lean Run
Have you ever wondered what it was like to live in that dark period of our nation’s history when free press was shut down, the voice of the people was suppressed, the economy pillaged by one family and their cronies, and thousands of Filipinos were abducted, tortured and summarily executed?

The Great Lean Run, a 3.7 km race and obstacle course, gives runners a taste of what it was like during the years of Martial Law. Organized by the UP SAMASA Alumni, the Lean Alejandro Foundation, and the UP Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the run features obstacles reminiscent of dictatorial rule, such as barbed wire, water cannons, anti-riot police, arbitrary arrests and much more. Runners will aim to survive the challenges of the course as they are chased down.

The race serves to stir critical thinking among the youth about the dangers of dictatorship and what needs to be done to courageously uphold and defend our freedom and democracy — the way activists like Lean Alejandro did.
